Travel Day |  Navarre Beach, FL to New Orleans, LA

ODOMETER: 81,630  | TODAY’S MILES: 229 | MILES TRAVELED: 3,685

The dogs LOVED the beach park in the morning. We usually have to keep them on leash because of the number of dogs in each RV park, but it was early so they enjoyed some relative freedom.

Jana and I decide to go for a paddle. It is blustery conditions with the wind blowing up to 12 mph so it’s hard going and every time I stop to take a video or a photo I lose 100 yards. At one juncture, I fell off the board so we decided to head back in as my iPhone is water resistant, but not salt resistant.

After cleaning up, Jana and I head for a grocery run, and to get some final things for Jack’s birthday. Jack and Ellie take the dogs for one last stroll at this beachfront resort and we pack up and head on to Louisiana.

Gamble Family Adventures and Travel Blog | Living on a Bus

Yesterday, we travelled 335 miles and only covered a fraction of the Florida Coastline. Florida has the second longest coastline of any state. Depending on how you measure, it can be between 1,350 miles (straight lines – CRS method) and 8,436 miles  (following every foot of the coastline by NOAA’s method).

Today, we will travel through four states: Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana and only cover 229 miles. Because the Gulf States need access to the Gulf itself, these slivers of Alabama and Mississippi are really important for commerce.

We arrived in New Orleans just after 4pm. Our RV park is the French Quarter RV Resort. It’s quite an unusual inner city park just beside Highway 10. With a large razor topped brick fence surrounding the resort, monstrous billboards sticking out of the center of it, and an overpass for Hwy 10 right beside us it sounds pretty uninviting.

It is actually a really cool spot. Within easy walking distance to the French Quarter in Downtown New Orleans, this little oasis in the concrete jungle is quite comfortable and our neighbors are very nice.

We get set up for a three day stay and I do some repairs to the dog fence which has provided invaluable in keeping the puppies out of the cockpit of the RV. Jana and Ellie decide to go out to get some additional decorations for Jack’s birthday but the traffic and foot traffic are overwhelming so they return to the bus a little frazzled.

We collectively wanted to be in New Orleans for Jack’s 16th birthday and knew we wouldn’t be out on the streets at night given COVID, but it seems that New Orleans hasn’t missed a beat and is peaking for New Year’s Eve as it does every year.

Today, we will travel through four states: Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana and only cover 229 miles.

Sailing Tahiti to Australia | Month 2 FP

Here is what our second month living on our boat, Hanavave, in Tahiti, French Polynesia, was like.

Our trip to Australia was delayed due to port closures throughout the South Pacific. We spent the month making improvements to Hanavave so that we could make the passage to Australia with fewer stops.
