The weather’s warming up but the strong winds aren’t going anywhere. These strong seasonal winds are prevalent from October to May, and are seriously cramping our paddle boarding opportunities. The wind is blowing up to 15 miles an hour and sometimes gets up to 20mph.
We took this opportunity to get some vehicle registration and licensing logistics squared away and spent the morning on this minuscia. After one of the multiple trips into town, Jana realized she’d left her phone and purse on the bumper of the Jeep at the RV park. She was chatting to a fellow Great Dane owner and we hustled out to head back into town and BOOM. . . no phone, no purse.
We use Find My iPhone to find the phone on the side of Hwy 1, separated from its case but intact. So lucky! We drive around the route we’d tasken looking for her purse and are about to call the police, when they call her on her phone to let her know that someone turned her purse in. UNBELIEVABLE!! If we hadn’t found her phone, we would not have got the call.
The police officer was so happy to be able to hand the purse back to her. Jana almost felt it made his day as much as it did hers. I’m not sure that would be possible. Losing your phone and purse is extremely stressful. That said, I’m sure those positive reunions are one of the more positive functions that law enforcement officers perform.
We grabbed a take out lunch from the “One Love” food truck, which is on Hwy 1. Friendly people and great food!
In the afternoon, we went back to Smathers Beach with Jack and Ellie and flew a kite (as the weather demanded).
Then we wen searching for our favorite ice cream shop EVER, and found it! It’s called Flamingo Crossing. We had ice cream here about 5 years ago and we were still talking about it when we were headed back to Key West. BEST EVER!!
The guy behind the counter was actually an Aussie, from Brisbane. We chatted with him for a bit and enjoyed the ice cream on a picnic table overlooking Duval Street at night . . . beautiful. Lot’s of festive lights and a warm breeze making this lead up to Christmas a little more typical of Australia than the US.
We had a quiet dinner in the RV and watched the “The Hangover (R)”. The laughs never seem to get old in that movie. It’s been a lovely day and we happily snuggle up for the night.
The police officer was so happy to be able to hand the purse back to her. Jana almost felt it made his day as much as it did hers.

Here is what our second month living on our boat, Hanavave, in Tahiti, French Polynesia, was like.
Our trip to Australia was delayed due to port closures throughout the South Pacific. We spent the month making improvements to Hanavave so that we could make the passage to Australia with fewer stops.
