Smathers Beach, Key West, FL

ODOMETER: 80,549 | MILES TRAVELED: 2,604

by Grant

The wind continues to blow strong and we stay in to get some work done until well after lunchtime. It rained last night and the wind does temper the humidity and mugginess and helps to cool things off a bit.

We head back to Smather’s Beach with Jack and Ellie but it’s a bit chilly on the water so we head downtown to drive along the many beautiful streets of Key West. We drive past the most southern point of the US (which actually is not the most southern point of land anymore) and decide to come back another time when it’s less populated (or maybe never).

We end up buying some rum from Hemingway Rum, grab some steaks and snacks for later and head back to Boyds Campground. We grill portobello mushrooms and steak on the grill and had a lovely dinner with broccoli and chocolate for dessert.

The weather is making it tough to do a lot of activities and we decide with the wind poised to abate tomorrow we will try the Jet Ski circumnavigation of Key West.
