We got up before sunrise to meet Red at his club on Doucet Street. We travel with him over to the airfield where he stores his planes just as the sun is coming up. It’s early for Jack, but he’s excited to see the vintage planes and hopefully get some good photos.
Red has four fully restored Monocoupe airplanes and a stable of sports cars and Harley Davidsons. Not to mention one of the largest collections of Penny Farthings in America.
The Monocoupes are absolutely spectacular. He has restored them all himself and in the case of his first Monocoupe, he has restored it three times and it’s on its fourth go round.
These vintage airplanes date back to the 1920’s and 1930’s and have spectacular lines and history. Jack saw some
vintage airplane images by Peter Lik and is so happy to have an opportunity like this to create some images himself.
After spending some time at the airfield, Red took us on a tour of Downtown Lafayette on the way back to his club. He then opened up a couple of his garages for us to see some of his car and bike collection which includes multiple Lamborghini’s, Harley Davidsons and much more. Again, Jack was amazed by the beautiful vehicles and got some more shots before we headed back to Red’s and onto the RV.
Jack has started sorting his photos and footage and works on this while Jana and I catch up on some housekeeping.
In the afternoon, we all headed out to the Cypress Island Preserve to go for a walk and check it out. Ellie was hilarious as usual and Jack got some drone footage. We then headed to Downtown Lafayette. It’s a lovely boutique Downtown area and we wandered and took photos of the many cool shopfronts.
We headed back to the RV and decided to try some local fare and ordered takeout from Fezzo’s. They have some great Cajun food and we tried a sampler, including alligator bites. After dinner, we hung out and had an early night in advance of heading off in the morning
