Big Bend National Park, Terlingua, TX

We woke early and I spent some time trying to work out our WiFi and Cellular issues, without success. We decided we’d make the most of the opportunity to get Jack and Ellie out in this beautiful part of the world so we reached out to their teachers and got them excused from school for the two days we would be without service.

This allowed us to take them out to the Terlingua Ghost Town and to the edge of Big Bend National Park via Indian Head Road, Terlingua, TX.

This gave us an incredible opportunity to get some photos and drone footage of this amazing community and landscape.

The Ghost Town is not really a ghost town anymore. It has a lot of artists, musicians and people seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle. It is fascinating to see the blend of dilapidated and abandoned houses and those homes of people who have embraced this quaint town as their home.

The cemetery in the Ghost Town is truly incredible and Jack got some great drone footage of this historic site and the surrounding area.

We then headed down to Indian Head Road and went on an odyssey, exploring the outer perimeter of Big Bend. The views and sights were breathtaking and again Jack droned these outer edges, following our progress down the many winding desert roads.

We returned to town and grabbed a few groceries and essentials from the Cottonwood Market grocery store. We also snapped some images of cows, Texas Longhorns, and mules that were penned up nearby.

Jana and I decided to squeeze in a bike/run and when we finished a quick half-hour session,  we headed back to the RV to spell the dogs. Jack, Ellie and Jana went across the road to utilize the Far Flung Outfitters WiFi to post and get caught up. We had bought t-shirts, caps, maps and coffee from their store so we didn’t feel badly about using some of their guest WiFi.

A blended dinner of leftover veggie chili and snacking and we spent the evening catching up with the blog, Jana spent hours editing video and collating images as she always does.

We are producing a prodigious amount of footage and images and it is almost a full-time task curating this library as well as posting and maintaining the website.

We’re still struggling with cell connections and I spent a lot of the evening on the phone with Sprint. We really need basic service for calls and texts and have been struggling locally. Most importantly, we need to resolve internet access for Jack and Ellie’s school work and we decide to book another RV park, BJ’s RV Park, for the latter part of the week so we can get Jack and Ellie back online.

When Jana finished compiling all the content, she shared the latest video compilation of Jack’s footage and it is incredible.

We’re all pretty worn out after a big day touring in the Jeep and we settle in for an early night to get ready to tackle Big Bend tomorrow.

The Ghost Town is not really a ghost town anymore. It has a lot of artists, musicians and people seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle.
