Today was another day of catching up. Jack and Stellie have midterms coming up and they need to get some work done before the end of the semester.
Virtual school is one of the reasons why we decided to take this trip but overall, I think it brings into focus the need for serious education reform in the U.S., one that starts with appropriate funding. I’m not an education expert, but I am a mother and I’m shocked at the fact that the system hasn’t once reached out to ask how it’s going. I think that feedback from people who truly care could be invaluable, but I think that it’s also an issue of a lack of funds to actually do a decent job under the circumstances. Like I said, it’s complicated. Our family is grateful for it because it allows us to undertake a much more meaningful learning experience, but we hate it because we feel like a lot of it is a waste of time.
That said, we have immense respect for the educators who are in it to truly make a difference and recognize that to a large degree, their hands are tied.
In the afternoon, we took the dogs out to Lake Brantley, which is just a few miles off-road from our RV park.
It’s a strange place, pretty stark and barren, but there is definitely beauty in it. The dogs got to run a lot, we got outside and everyone was happy.

Sailing Tahiti to Australia | Month 2 FP
Here is what our second month living on our boat, Hanavave, in Tahiti, French Polynesia, was like.
Our trip to Australia was delayed due to port closures throughout the South Pacific. We spent the month making improvements to Hanavave so that we could make the passage to Australia with fewer stops.
