Travel Day: Carlsbad, NM to Alamogordo, NM
ODOMETER: 83,225 | TODAY’S MILES: 147 | MILES TRAVELED: 5,280

Today, we had about a 3-hour drive from Carlsbad, NM to Alamogordo, NM. It was a beautiful scenic drive that spanned from the desert, into the Sacramento Mountains and the Lincoln National Forest, down into the Tularosa Basin of the Chihuahuan desert. In three hours, we saw about four different landscapes.
The sky was a bright blue broken up by perfect, whimsical clouds, making each scene more picturesque than the last. Sitting in the front of Thelma during these drives, looking out at these picturesque marvels of nature through the big windshield that offers a mostly unobstructed view has become somewhat of a sacred time Grant and I share. We imagine what it would be like to live in all the different places we pass through and how our lives may be different. I have come to believe that these experiences are transformative, as each place enters our psyche and our souls grow as a result.
