We had another nice morning paddle and later, we took the puppies to Valle de los Gigantes (“Valley of the Giants”), which is an ancient cactus forest near San Felipe. The forest features cardón cacti, which are the tallest frowing cacti in the world, reaching heights of over 60 feet. They can weigh up to 25 tons and reach ages up to 300 years! It was a great experience to stand among these giant cacti and the most amazing blue sky!

We are going to be staying in San Felipe until the third week of February. Since our tow package broke on the way down here, we’ve learned that it is very difficult to get things mailed to Mexico. We are also having issues with the internet, as the infrastructure here is still pretty weak and it is difficult to get reliable service for Jack and Stellie to get their school done via Zoom.

We’ve had to order special routers through a friend in the States so that we can use local SIM cards to try and get reliable internet service and continue our journey south. Since we can’t get things mailed here, a friend will have to send everything to the U.S. side of the border town of El Centro and Grant will have to drive the 200km back to pick it all up.

Grant and I will use this “downtime” to start developing a project we have been interested in and working toward for many years and we are very excited to feel inspired and to be working together.

In the mornings, we venture to a local coffee shop with good internet service and Jack and Stellie do their Zoom classes from the outside patio while Grant and I work.

If the tide and wind permits, Grant and I do an early morning paddle after taking the puppies for their beach walk. Otherwise, we run/ride through the desert in the afternoon.

We are also having issues with the internet, as the infrastructure here is still pretty weak and it is difficult to get reliable service for Jack and Stellie to get their school done via Zoom.
