Jack and Stellie had school again this morning, so Grant and I went out for a paddle. It was a beautiful, sunny and calm day and it felt very peaceful on the water. It was nice to get this time after a couple of tough and stressful days on the road, knowing there was more to come.
Honestly, thinking about how much further we had to go on the treacherous roads made me quite anxious and I couldn’t wait to get to our final destination and decompress. The element of the unknown is also always in the back of one’s mind and can add to the discomfort. But the constant problem solving and emotional resilience required to undertake this kind of an adventure contributes to tremendous growth. It shows the kids that with sufficient motivation, anything is possible as long as you’re willing to work through your discomfort, solve problems on the fly and think outside the box. These are invaluable skills in real life and ones that can’t really be taught in a classroom.
We set out in the afternoon for the 3.5 hour trip to our next stop, which was Loreto on the east coast of Baja. The trip went pretty smoothly and the vistas were breathtaking. We got to Loreto around 5pm and were greeted by Yolanda at the Rivera del Mar RV Park in the city. She was a very sweet, accommodating lady who made us feel very welcome at her park. While hooking Thelma up, we met our neighbor, Brent, an older gentleman who has lived at the park since 2004. He was also very generous with information about Loreto and gave us a recommendation for a good restaurant.
Jack and Stellie were tired, so Grant and I decided to walk down to Orlando’s Restaurant to pick up takeout.
The restaurant was several blocks away from the RV park and we were warmly greeted along the way by locals and their canine friends. Once we got there, we discovered a lovely outdoor seating area which was mostly empty, so we decided to sit down and eat our dinner there and bring takeout for the kids. The food was spectacular and a contender to Fernando’s ceviche back in San Felipe. We had such a lovely evening together, it was meant to be. After dinner, we walked a little further into town to see the famous and very picturesque town square.
It shows the kids that with sufficient motivation, anything is possible as long as you’re willing to work through your discomfort, solve problems on the fly and think outside the box.
